Common Scams

This article is going to cover the most common scams we see on this platform, and what you should do if you encounter one

Money Mule

This is a scam that we have seen a lot of lately. This is a tactic used to transfer or launder illegally acquired money. On our platform, it's usually in the form of stolen credit cards.

How it works:

Scammers send you money on the platform, but ask you to send a large portion of the money back to them through a different means, such as Paypal, Cashapp, bank transfer, or digital gift cards.

What to do:

If anyone on Unfiltrd asks you to send them money in a way that sounds like a money mule, report the user to Security immediately.

Fake Tips

Unfiltrd will send a message in your DMs that that subscriber has sent you a tip. What some scammers do is send a screenshot or photospped image of the “Sent you a Tip” message to creators. On some platforms, it’s not totally obvious that it's an image that has been sent. On Unfiltrd we are notified that media has been sent, and we can set pricing on inbound media messages, so it wont work on Unfitlrd, but it's been pulled off on other platforms. If you experience someone trying to pull the Fake Tips scam trying to get free content from you, report it to Security right away. You can confirm that it is fake by checking Statements>Payment History

Digital Checks

There are some subs who will try to purchase content off platform and will offer to pay by digital check. You see this more often with people reaching out to you via DM on social media platforms such as twitter or even reddit. It’s a pretty good rule of thumb to just go with paypal or cash app if this is happening to you off platform. Checks are easily cancelled and faked whereas other forms of payment are not. Some even try to claim they can not pay through fan subscription platforms at all, even though they’ve been proven to be safe and secure.
*We are not encouraging you to take payments off your fan subscription platforms as all of them, including Unfiltrd has strict policies regarding off platform payments. But we cant stop you from doing what you want on your social media accounts. This information is meant to be educational.*

IF YOU SUSPECT ANY USER ON THE PLATFORM OF COMMITTING FRAUD PLEASE REPORT IT TO SECURITY RIGHT AWAY.
